PERFECT INSTANT POT CHICKEN RECIPE
You will
need:
- 1 thawed whole chicken
- Olive Oil
- Chicken Seasoning (your choice)
Seasonings
I used:
- Salt
- Pepper
- Paprika
- Onion Powder
- Garlic Powder
INTRUCTIONS
Step One: Prep your
thawed chicken. Take out of packaging remove innards if any. Some brands leave
chicken extras inside the chickens some do not. DO NOT WASH OR RINSE YOUR
CHICKEN! Washing Chicken spreads bacteria you do not want to do that!
Step Two: Turn on your Instant Pot’s saute option and wait
for it to heat up. Add a tablespoon of Olive Oil to the bottom of your instant
pot and put your chicken breast side down in the instant pot with a light
coating of seasoning.
Sauteing whole chicken
This helps give the skin some color and keeps it from turning
into a mushy mess while pressure cooking your chicken.
After 3-4 minutes flip your chicken and saute the other side
for an additional 3-4 minutes.
Step Three: Remove Chicken from your Instant Pot and add more
seasoning if you want, to the breast, wings, and thighs of your chicken. I like
lots of seasoning so there is no such thing as too much.
Step Four: Add trivet and one cup of water in your pot. Place
chicken, breast side up, on to the trivet. Put the lid on your instant pot
press pressure cook option and set time. This is going to depend on the weight
of your chicken.
Cooking times for pressure cooker chicken:
Pressure cooking chicken time is 6 minutes per pound of chicken.
I cooked a 4 lb chicken this time. So, 4 Lbs X 6 minutes = 24 minutes on the timer
Whole chicken in Instant Pot
It takes the Instant Pot about 10 minutes to come to
pressure. So my 4 LB chicken took 34 minutes to cook.
You can do a quick release when time is up and remove your
chicken or do a natural release, which is what I do for 10 minutes then, a
quick release.
This just makes the chicken more juicy and fall apart
tender. I think with a quick release the
meat tends to be more dry.
